Improving Pug Nutrition

by Jenny Donaldson

Recently there have been recalls of pet foods due to a risk of poisoning your precious pets. Even before the recalls, buying pet food has never been the best idea. If you want good Pug nutrition for your beloved pet then say goodbye to the idea of commercial dog food forever. Pug care means giving your dog the best and making sure your dog is healthy and happy. One way you can make sure this happens is to provide your dog with food that is free of chemicals, additives and provides them with the necessary nutrients.

When you make your own food you are taking Pug care to the highest level. You will find that your dog will be healthier than other dogs that eat commercial dog food. Your dog will not be prone to allergies and will generally be a much happier dog. Making your own dog food could actually work out to be cheaper than buying it. It is also very easy so there should really be no excuse for giving your dog the best Pug nutrition there is.

Simply by using Pug dog food recipes instead of kibble you can make a change in the quality of your dog's life. The ingredients are simple and easily at hand, what's more you probably already have them at home.

A dog needs a diet that has meat, as it is after all descended from the wolf. Modern pet owners often forget when learning all there is about Pug care that they have a distant cousin of the wolf in their house. Remember this and the fact that the Pug diet should contain fifty to seventy percent meat on a daily basis. The Pug is a small dog and does not need as much meat as say, a German Shepherd, but it is still more meat than what the average commercial pet food contains per serving.

Natural food does not mean that anything you would eat is okay for your dog. There are certain foods that are not good for your dog and in some cases can be lethal when taken in large amounts.

So read a few articles and books on natural foods that are good and bad for your dog. You should also check with your vet and talk about your plan to feed your dog natural food. Your vet will be able to advise you on the best foods and maybe give you some Pug dog food recipes.

You probably know that some things should never be included in Pug nutrition. Some of these foods include chocolate, caffeine, raw fish, sugary foods and dairy products. Onions are an absolute no and should never be fed to dogs. Garlic is less toxic than onions to dogs but should be cooked and given occasionally. Be cautious when feeding your dog natural foods if previously your dog has been eating commercial dog food.

Cook the rice separately and before each meal and add to the casserole. This is a basic recipe and you will soon be inventing your own with different meats and vegetables.
